Speaker: Jim H., Stroke Survivor

Tell us about yourself.

Jim H.: Hi, my name is Jim Hanson. I'm 56 years old. I'm from Medford Massachusetts. I've had my stroke, back in June of 2023.

How did your stroke impact you?

Jim H.: When I left the hospital and I got home, I still had shoulder pain, and I was not sleeping very well. And, my leg was, it was still in a wheelchair. And, we had to get ramps in the house and, you know, all that type of stuff, to get me prepped [to come home].

What was your past experience with rehab?

Jim H.: My impatient rehab was pretty intense. They got my arm moving and, uh, stuff like that. My outpatient rehab was, a lot of take home stuff. Uh you know, stretching and, electrical stimulation.

What is different about rehab with Imago?

Jim H.: The difference [with Imago] [is that] the first day that I, uh I met Kristen, she uh showed me something on, with, my cane, and it showed me that my hand was actually moving. And that was kind of exciting because, uh it's the first time I had seen it move. And, uh that gave me hope. And, so from there on, I met Micaela and they um they keep you challenged.

Jim H.: The stretching helps me sleep better. And each time she adds stuff to the, uh every time we do a workout, they'll add to the program. And then I ask them to, show pictures of the muscle group so that, that I can use

Jim H.: [I can] think about what I'm, what I'm actually doing when I, when I do a moment. And, like I say, I've taken the stretches every night, seriously because it makes my arm feel a lot better.

How has Imago helped you?

Jim H.: They've helped me out with, certain things that I couldn't do before. Like I, I have a game called, uh, FitMe and, uh, and it's, a music glove and, uh, before [Imago] I couldn't even bother to use it but, working with Micaela, I can now do that glove. And, I [can now] open my refrigerator door because I can get a squeeze in [my hand] and, you know, open and close it and, then release it. So it's pretty amazing. Like I said, it's all thinking out of the box, you know, and every day I see a new moment.
