Speaker: Zora D., Nerve Injury Patient

Tell us about yourself.

Zora D.: Hello, my name is Zora.

Zora D.: And I had an accident,

Zora D.: I fell and tried to grab the fence in my backyard when I lost my balance and twisted my arm.

Zora D.: During the whole process of the accident, the emergency room and then the operation, I damaged the whole axillary nerve to my arm, from my shoulder down, that controls my deltoid muscle. Because there was this major nerve damage, I was having difficulty raising my arm or anything.

How did your accident impact your life?

Zora D.: So when I left the hospital, I, it was very, very difficult. I couldn't do anything with my arm. And I was having, after the operation, I was having in house,

Zora D.: physical therapy, but there wasn't much they could do because I had broken the humerus and I had to wait for that to repair first.

What was your experience with rehab prior to Imago?

Zora D.: So my experience at, um, when I started the local physical therapy office...

Zora D.: When I have my appointment, um, I only get to see the physical therapist about 10 minutes at the very end when he sort of works on my arm. The rest of the time, it's just helpers and the helpers don't always know how to set up the equipment. Often times they're asking me how much weight and, um, whether it's this or that. And, uh, that's frustrating. It's frustrating that and it takes so much longer because in between the exercises, I have to wait until one of the helpers is available and they're very busy in there.

Zora D.: It was also the fact that I had to drive to the place, then wait for my appointment, then go in, do all of the exercises [with] too much time in between exercises, waiting for somebody to set up the equipment and then, um, drive back home.

What is different about rehab with Imago?

Zora D.: And, um, the, the wonderful thing about Imago is that the therapist watches you the whole time and corrects you if you're not doing something correct. And it's just a all around pleasant experience and makes you feel like every bit of time that you're using is efficient and, um, that you've actually feel good about the exercises you've done and that you've accomplished something.

Zora D.: Zoom on Imago, for the occupational therapy that I'm doing, is so easy and so convenient. And, you know, I can do it in my own house. And, it's something I look forward to because I know that once I get started, it's over after an hour and I've done everything. I feel I've accomplished something. As opposed to taking up half my day twice a week.

Zora D.: So, as I may have mentioned earlier, the difference is between a Imago and the local physical therapy office is the time involved

Zora D.: So nothing gets changed. And um this routine seem with, with Imago seems so much more customized to me, uh and focused more on just trying to do my daily uh routine and I can discuss what I'm having difficulty if I'm, can't wash my hair or I can't reach a cabinet or something. And so they customize it and focus more on, on those specific exercises that will help me.

How has Imago helped you?

Zora D.: So ever since I started with Imago, I feel that I feel confident that the exercises I'm doing are correct because somebody is watching me the whole time. And I also feel I've made lots of progress just in the two months that I've started with them. And so I feel that the amount of time that I have put in with them has given me an incredible amount of improvement.

Zora D.: I feel that the Imago experience is customized for me, for my needs and helping me to be able to do, make progress and be able to do everyday things like normal things like washing my hair, reaching up in the cabinet shelf, uh a lot of these things and she's watching me and seeing what movements I do or cannot do and what I'm having difficulty with. And she's customizing it right then and there for me, um you know, it's a totally different experience compared to the physical therapy office.
