Speaker: Michael Green

Tell us about yourself and how you became justice impacted.

Michael Green: How y'all doing? My name is Michael Green. I am a 44 year old ex justice impacted recipients. Um I was just as impacted in my twenties. Um and I had been going through different obstacles, not being able to get a job because of the background um housing and things of that nature.

How has being justice impacted affected your life?

Michael Green: But being justice impacted and, and affecting my life by me not being able to get a job. Um because of your background, housing, because of my background just kept me at a certain barrier instead of being, being able to jump over there and climb over those barriers. I was stuck in the same thing, day in and day out.

What did the Legacy Program help you accomplish? What did you gain from the Legacy Program?

Michael Green: The Legacy program has helped me get myself and my feet back into society and explore other aspects in life. Um I've have had my record explained. Thank you, Miss Shawnee Williams. Thank you, Miss Mary Mims. Um um I've basically been able to get a fresh start on life as they say, I've taken my seat belt off and the restraint um being a part of being, being a part of the Legacy program also helps a lot of people get back into this world who have actually been incarcerated or who have had family to be incarcerated.

What have you gone on to do and accomplish since completing the Legacy Program?

Michael Green: Well, since I've uh completed the legacy program, Miss Shanie Williams has helped me get a part of this beautiful place that we call Viola right now. And I've also worked my way to be called, become the head A IC and lead sales agent. That means the agent in charge. I have one of the supervisors managers that runs this entire place. So thank you for the legacy program for giving me a second chance and to be able to prove that being in this industry is where I belong, what I do and what I love to do.

What words of encouragement or advice do you have for people who are trying to navigate their justice impacted journey?

Michael Green: Words of encouragement that I have for people who are trying to get back into the, into the world who are just impacted, who serve time is to take it one day at a time. Make sure you keep positive people in your circle. Everybody who wants to see you do good. They're not gonna always cheer for you. They're just gonna push you. They're gonna make sure that you actually understand. They're not going to sugar coat and tell you it's OK and it's not. So use the people that have been positive in your life, use the Legacy program when you meet these people in this legacy program, use them. What use the tools that they give you to succeed and get back into this world? Thank you, Legacy program.
