Speaker: Marin Shanahan
Tell us about your experiences and stories doing home visits with your students and their families.
Marin Shanahan: I am an emergent bilingual teacher for 6th, 7th and 8th graders and love my job. And I found that the home visits are the best way to really connect with our families that don't necessarily feel welcome in the school or safe because they don't speak the language, they don't necessarily understand the culture, they're new to the United States. And so going and meeting my families at their homes has been instrumental and they feel so much more comfortable coming to me now and messaging me and sharing triumphs and concerns that they have. And so I really love this program. It's amazing, really helps you to connect with students and families. And I encourage every teacher to do it.
