Tell us about your experiences and stories doing home visits with your students and their families.

Lainey Reisman: Hi there. My name is Laney Reisman. I am a third grade teacher at Strawberry Park Elementary. I have always wanted to do home visits. I've been an educator for eight years and I wasn't able to do them when I was teaching in Denver. So I jumped on the opportunity. My goal has been to visit all of my students homes. And by the end of this week, I will visit, have visited 20 out of 21 and it has by far been one of the most impactful things I have done this year. The relationships I am building with my students as well as their family has been amazing. I really get to know students in a different light when I enter their homes and seeing them light up and seeing their transformations once they enter back into the classroom the following day has been wonderful. I also have built a lot stronger relationships with the parents. I have seen an increase with the communication and I just feel that they're more comfortable approaching me about situations and I feel like the trust has been strengthened and it's just been great last week for teacher appreciation week. Some of the students filled out a sheet that, and one of the, telling things they love about their teacher and their favorite memories and each student under favorite memory they said it was when Miss Reisman visited their home and they're just so excited having their teacher over. I mean, it's weird for some of them, but once they get comfortable they want to show me everything. They're so proud of their room and taking a picture. I always take a picture and then give it to the family the next day in an email and the feedback I've gotten from them has been great as well and it's just been a wonderful experience all around and I highly recommend it for others.
