Tom Steer: My HAL-entine's Day story began 17 years ago, this very week. I used to work on board ship and I was scheduled to join the Statendam... This is the old Statendam in Auckland, New Zealand, and I was in a taxi approaching the ship for the first time. I could see it on the horizon, and I had this strange feeling. I suddenly thought I'm going to meet my wife on that ship. And I did. She was working on board ship to and we met officially in The Crow's Nest at the Black & White Party. We had our first date in Melbourne and then went on to cruise the world together on the DAM ships. We talked about our wedding plans from the beaches of Brazil over a few Caipirinhas. I popped the question in the Greek Isles, I bought her engagement ring in Barcelona, and then we planned our wedding from the Noordam, took our honeymoon while the Westerdam was in dry dock in the Bahamas. And we're still cruising together to this day, this time with the DAM kids in tow on the DAM ships. But they are now old enough to be in Club HAL so we can still toast those memories over Rudy's or Tamarind, which are our favorites. So whatever you're doing, have a Happy HAL-entine's Day.
