Speaker: Karla Finn
Describe one of your peak moments during the Michigan Teacher Retention Design Challenge. Why does it stand out?
Karla Finn: So one of the things that was transformative for me was just working with my group and going through the process, hopefully taking back those ideas for solutions to help us move us forward in our professional learning PD opportunities, the setting up the action steps so that it's not just a fluff kind of thing like was shared and just hopefully our higher-ups will take what we are bringing back to them and feel that it's valuable and aligned so we can do what's best for our teachers so that our scholars learn and teaching improves.
Describe your team's solution idea to the teacher retention challenge in your school or district. What does success look like?
Karla Finn: My team focused on professional learning as our focus. So we want to transform some of our specifically PLCs to differentiate those so that all of our teachers feel valued and feel what they're learning is important and can impact their teaching and student learning.
If you were going to recommend the Michigan Teacher Retention Design Challenge workshop, what would you say to encourage others to attend?
Karla Finn: I would recommend this process to districts or schools that want to think about a problem that they're facing just the collaborative piece. I would recommend that you try to get all stakeholders, stakeholders involved um from teachers all the way up to your superintendent so that the people who can impact change the most were to say yes, go ahead and move are involved in this process, right from the start.
