Speaker: Jarrad Grandy
Describe one of your peak moments during the Michigan Teacher Retention Design Challenge. Why does it stand out?
Jarrad Grandy: I think one of my peak moments was when we were going over some steps with our solution and it made me think about another project I was working on and I don't know if I would have come with that idea for this other project if I hadn't been working on this problem. So that was a big one. It was also good to see um staff that I normally don't work with, uh as closely, um except on some, you know, particular projects here and there. It was good to have an opportunity to work with them.
Describe your team's solution idea to the teacher retention challenge in your school or district. What does success look like?
Jarrad Grandy: So my team solution, we were talking about um a teacher apprenticeship program. I don't know if we'll go in that direction when I take it back. Um But it, it's similar and has elements that are going to be helpful for other projects. I'm working on our real issue is less on the retention, a lot more on the recruitment. So I do think it's gonna be valuable.
If you were going to recommend the Michigan Teacher Retention Design Challenge workshop, what would you say to encourage others to attend?
Jarrad Grandy: I would tell them that this is an opportunity to step away um from your current day to day fires and just take a few moments to be involved in the process, but also be able to approach it. And uh you know, using some of your own medical ignition and think about um mhm how you could use some of the techniques from the facilitators to work with your staff? So that would be my, my takeaway. Um And for some of us who have gone through DT before used, it was a great refresher. So um didn't feel stale or wrote or anything like that at all.
