Speaker: Emily Doher

Describe one of your peak moments during the Michigan Teacher Retention Design Challenge. Why does it stand out?

Emily Doher: Alright. One of my peak moments during the Michigan teacher retention design challenge is working with um administrative members of my school district and being able to put myself in their shoes as opposed to just looking at things from a teacher's perspective. That was awesome and um learning this model of design thinking to apply to other areas of my life are um and my career really helpful.

Describe your team's solution idea to the teacher retention challenge in your school or district. What does success look like?

Emily Doher: Our solution idea was to empower teachers to teach each other and learn from one another to further the ability to manage classrooms and manage difficult behaviors that we're seeing in today's day and age education. Success looks like teachers being empowered to teach others. And that increasing the retention in our school district.

If you were going to recommend the Michigan Teacher Retention Design Challenge workshop, what would you say to encourage others to attend?

Emily Doher: If I were going to recommend the Michigan teacher retention design challenge to others, I would encourage others to attend by telling them that it will take you so far out of your comfort zone that you will have no choice but to listen to Earth wind and fire while you are answering the survey question, I don't know if you could hear earth wind and fire in the background, but that's what just came on. So anyway, what I would say is this takes you so far out of your comfort zone that you have no choice but to um get really meaningful things out of it and it's not just fluff PD, it's actually actionable and you're going to take things away from it that you could imply.
