Speaker: Nikki Sparks
What is one of your big take-aways from this workshop? Describe how you will look to bring it into your practice or work.
Nikki Sparks: right. I think one of the biggest takeaways for me, um from this training would be all the conversations that I have at the district level in my school corporation comes back to, we are not really teaching our kids to think, and our kids are not doing a really good job of problem solving critical thinking and um, teachers and admin are looking for something and not knowing what they need. And I feel like this is the gap that our corporation is missing. Um, this is the this is what we can use, We need design thinking, being utilized by our teachers, our administration, understanding what it is and how our students are going to be able to think and maybe stay local and not just all leave our area. So that's probably my biggest um, my biggest takeaway is how this is an answer to a problem in my local level.
If you were to recommend this experience to a colleague, what would you share and why?
Nikki Sparks: uh it's not if I were to recommend this to a colleague uh really for me it's what will I be saying to my colleagues after this training and for me it's it's very simple um it's what you've been asking for. Um it the approach coming from Henry Ford Learning Institute with the trainers, um It's not um overwhelming, they take you through it, you become the learner, then you can become, you know, the teacher role, but immersing yourself in it to know what the students will be feeling um is only gonna make you a better teacher at it and it's not a fad, it's not it's not a new thing coming through for us as educators, it's what we do all of the time and we should be doing put together um in a process that just makes sense.
