Speaker: Omar Estevez
Start by letting us know who you are, what position you are applying, and in what city/state.
Omar Estevez: Hello, my name is Omar Estevez. I'm applying to be a hearing instrument specialist or provider for your practice uh for the city of New York, specifically Long Island.
Why should we hire you?
Omar Estevez: I've been working with Doctor Cardano and Doctor Lazzaro for about almost three years, maybe a little bit more than three years. Currently, I love working with the patients. I enjoy being able to help them on a daily basis. I can't really think of anything I would rather be doing than helping people, you know, not lose their cognitive function and be able to hear better. Um It's very important for me, especially someone who has struggled to listen and acknowledge to people, people over my lifetime. You know, it's important for me and I kind of understand what they go through, not from not being able to hear part, but, you know, the, the difficulty that people have when they're not able to listen and acknowledge and I know how important it is. So it really, it's one of the reasons why I come to work every day. It's because I know how important it is and how grateful patients are when you're able to help them so that they can hear and what a difference it makes in their lives.
What is your greatest accomplishment so far?
Omar Estevez: I think my greatest accomplishment so far professionally is, you know, the change that I have made in starting as someone who started at the front desk and having conversations and helping patients that way to now personally helping them hear better and helping them with their ails and difficulties. And, you know, that that accomplishment of turning myself into someone who can now fix their issues when they come in and solve a lot of their problems. It's been a huge accomplishment for me. Personal accomplishment have to say I never thought I would be a runner, but I'm still not a runner, but I've started and I've done a couple of races and, you know, it starts little by little, but I'm really proud of the fact that I've been accomplished, even completing some races, even if they haven't been so far or so, so long. But we're getting there. Hopefully the next accomplishment is to complete the New York City Marathon.
Describe your ‘perfect’ day?
Omar Estevez: I think my perfect day has to start with hopefully waking up in the morning, going to the gym, getting your blood pumping, you know, getting a nice run in or a nice strength training and maybe hitting the heavy bag from there, having a nice breakfast and then, you know, getting ready for work. Hopefully there's not a lot of traffic. I usually deal with a lot of traffic. So those are when there's not a lot of traffic, that's usually the perfect day for me already. Um And then, you know, getting to work, looking over what needs to be done today, what I, what I can do today on top of what needs to be done if I'm seeing patients today, you know, making sure I'm, I'm giving them the best experience and, you know, hopefully everyone leaves really happy that day. So I would say a day where I've helped a lot of people and, you know, have good conversations with them and fix any issues that they have. Um, and then also take care of anyone who calls in and needs help or wants help or get getting them started on that journey and then you know, taking care of everything in the office and making sure that my coworkers are best prepared to help as many people as they can answer any questions that they can, that they have for the, for the day and, you know, preparing for the next day as well. It's very important. So if I, if I can do all those things that day and, you know, also help people, I think I would consider that the perfect day and it would help if there's also no traffic on the way home.
In the next 3-5 years where do you see yourself personally and professionally. Share as many details as you are comfortable with.
Omar Estevez: So in the, in the next 3 to 5 years, professionally, we'll start there because I think it's a little easier. Uh I do want to continue down this road, so I do want to be an audiologist. Uh So I do want to go to school and complete that, that way I can get my audiology degree and you know, help even more people and be more accredited and be even more knowledgeable than I am today so that I can help more people. And then personally, I do want to start doing more activities, maybe get into recently. I thought of the idea of potentially getting into like rock climbing. I do want to join a martial arts class and I also do want to run the marathon. So I think those are the next three things for me personally, is getting those things into my schedule and doing the work to accomplish those.
Who do you think of for; motivation, inspiration and direction? Why
Omar Estevez: I can't say that I, I, you know, really have one person that I think of for motivation. Uh more inspiration. Usually the people that I think of is, you know, my girlfriend, my friends, uh those are the people who motivate me and inspire me. And also the people I work with, you know, they always want to get better, they always wanna accomplish more things. They're, you know, always looking at the next step. So I try to follow in those same footsteps and, you know, try to do better every day and, you know, continue to grow and be better. That's those, those are the people who motivate me are my friends and my family and also the people I work with.
What gives you a sense of Purpose?
Omar Estevez: What gives me a sense of purpose is, you know, that moment where someone is very grateful for something you've done for them. Um I think that that's the moment where those are the moments that I really live for. Um, just knowing or feeling like you've helped somebody or you've changed somebody's life or you did something for them that was that, you know, made them a better person that day. So I think making, doing what I can to help and make people better every day. I think that's given me the greatest sense of purpose. Um I truly, I've always thought that to be nice to always be nice to everybody because it can change their, their whole mood that day. So I really, truly believe that doing good for others so that they can be a better person that day in whatever way they can. Those are the things that give me a sense of purpose and I feel like it starts with, it can start with how I treat them that day and what I do for them.
What does success look like to you?
Omar Estevez: Success to me is having my friends and family around me, being comfortable with being able to take care of myself and my loved ones, truly being happy with what I'm doing and proud of what I'm doing. Being able to say that I help people every day. That's, that's what success is to me, being comfortable being with my family, being with my friends and helping people as much as I can every day and, and continuing to grow as a person as well. So not just being content with where I'm at, but continuing to grow and never, never wanting less for myself.
What would be your top 3 book recommendations regardless of genre and why?
Omar Estevez: First book I would recommend is I believe it was called We We Were Liars. It's just a really interesting uh plot and it has like a really big twist at the end. So I'm a sucker for big twist at the end and, and you know, good stories. Um That was one book I read recently, the other book I would recommend is The Seven Habits of highly successful people. Now, I was recommended this book in high school towards the end of high school by my English teacher. I wasn't a great student. So, but the book really opens your eyes in terms of or maybe opens your mind and not only your, how your habits affect you, but just the way you think about everything and the way you do things in your life. And it was just always so interesting. Every time I read it, I pick up new things and even everything in the book, there's just so much to it, to implement that it, it's hard to do even after one read so great book. And then a new book that I just recently learned about it on a podcast called We Never Split the difference starting reading it. It's about a FBI negotiator and um it's really good so far. So I would actually recommend that especially in our field. Uh when we uh our patients are, patients love to negotiate with us. So I think I would recommend that book as well.
