Speaker: Meghan Parker

Start by letting us know who you are, what position you are applying, and in what city/state.

Meghan Parker: Hello, my name is Megan Parker. I am 38 years old. I am applying for patient experience coordinator in Saint George Utah.

Why should we hire you?

Meghan Parker: You should hire me because I am um I'm a quick learner. I am willing to learn. I am willing to work hard. I have great customer service skills and am able to get along with anybody I meet. I make friends everywhere I go. I can work with any type of person. I am a great team worker and able to get along with people. Um I have lots of years of customer service type skills. I'm uh I uh have been in the coaching, running a volleyball club field for a lot of years and that requires working with players and parents and parents in sports are always, um can be difficult and unhappy. And as the director, I have had to deal with many parents and be able to, you know, solve problems and situations and make them happy and keep everyone happy in the club. Um I ran nine different teams with 11 different coaches with hundreds of uh over 100 volleyball players, which is a lot of parents. Um I am friendly, happy, upbeat, hard working, dependable um multitasker. I'm a mom so I can multitask. I can do many things at once. Um very fast learner. And I think I would be a great asset to your team.

What is your greatest accomplishment so far?

Meghan Parker: Um my very greatest accomplishment so far is my Children. So being a mother is very important to me and raising kind, hard working, mostly respectful Children, uh has been very important to me and I think the greatest compliment that I can get is when we go somewhere and people tell me what good kids I have and how respectful they are. Um That's important to me. They are leaders. Um they make friends everywhere they go, they kind, they stand up for anyone getting picked on. They are respectful of their elders. They are respectful of any coaches in athletic situations and don't talk back and they're uh they have good manners always saying please and thank you. And um yeah, we go places and people meet my kids and they tell me what good kids I have. And I think that's the greatest complish uh compliment that I can get. And that is by far my greatest accomplishment. I have four kids. Um They range from a senior in high school to five. So quite the wide range. I have a daughter that's a senior gonna graduate here in the next month, which is crazy. She's my oldest, can't believe I'm that old. And then I have another daughter who's a freshman. She's 15, a son who is 10 in fourth grade and then the little Caboose and she is, she just turned five on Saint Patrick's Day. And then I would say my second greatest accomplishment. So right now we live in Preston, Idaho. I don't know if you've seen Napoleon dynamite. That is this town, but we are looking to relocate to Saint George Utah. Um Husband's job changed. So, and, and I'm sick of the snow. So we were just like, you know what, let's make a change. So we're both applying down in Saint George Utah. We would love to relocate down there. Um But here in this little town of Preston Idaho, I was a college volleyball athlete and my daughters play volleyball and in this little town, there's not a lot of club volleyball opportunities to stay in the sport in the off season, except if we travel across the border into Utah and those clubs are extremely expensive and kids in this little small town are not super wealthy. So I started and have ran a club volleyball opportunity, which is basically pretty much a nonprofit. Every single penny goes towards them playing, but I keep it cheap where they can afford it, but still give them the opportunity to stay in the sport in the off season. Um And it grew to the point of last year I had nine teams and I had kids coming from 45 different schools around this area, West side Preston, Marsh Valley Grace, um, and all traveling into Preston just to play club volleyball, uh, had 11 different coaches working with me and I was coordinating all of that and handling the finances and ordering jerseys and ordering t-shirts. And then as the director and in sports, there's all always unhappy parents. And so then dealing with that. And so that's where my, you know, customer service comes into play because I was always able to calm the parent down, work out a solution, make sure that everybody's happy. The coach is happy, the player is happy, the parents are happy. I've dealt with many, many upset sports parents over the years and have been able to resolve every problem. Um, so being able to give those kids in this small town, that opportunity is also another good accomplishment, but my kids will always be my greatest.

Describe your ‘perfect’ day?

Meghan Parker: Oh, man. Well, you know, as a mother with Children, my perfect day you can, you can fantasize, right? And you can hope and wish my perfect day would be. I don't e I don't even know because there's a part of me that's like laying on a beach in the sunshine, just relaxing and you know, having a little fruity slushy type drink and just feeling the sun and the vitamin D and listening to the ocean and smelling the salt water and sun and warm. No cold, no snow. Hate that. Which is another reason I want, you know, to relocate down to Saint George, but not an entire day without my kids because I am one who loves my kids like when it's spring break or when it's summer break and I have my kids home. I absolutely love it. They are like, I love spending time with them and when it comes time for them to go back to school, I hate it. So, uh, also having my kids there and being able to hear their laughter and watch them play around together and run around and just have joy and happiness. Um, yeah, that'd be a pretty perfect day watching them play in the water and on the beach and also being able to have some relaxing healing time.

In the next 3-5 years where do you see yourself personally and professionally. Share as many details as you are comfortable with.

Meghan Parker: So I don't have a ton of work experience. Um, I went from high school to, uh, college volleyball to getting married. Obviously, I live in Utah and we get married young and right into being a mother. And over the years I've done things here and there just to, you know, get outside of the home and give myself experience or further my education. Like, I've done some courses while I've been home with my kids. I've gotten certified as a medical transcriptionist. I've gone and worked as AC N A. I've, I've started the club volleyball program. I've done things over the years. Mostly I've been at home with my kids. So my resume is not extremely, you know, like glowing and impressive. But I'm at the point in my life where I'm ready for a career for myself. My kids are getting older and I would like something for me. And so in 3 to 5 years, whatever I jump into now, um, I'd like to see myself still there in 3 to 5 years, especially in another 25 years. I'm one who doesn't like to change. I like stability and routine. And so whichever position I end up in or whatever job I get, I plan on that being like, I want to just continue to grow in that business and stay with that business and have that be like a second family and, you know, just stay in that for the next 25 however plus years, you know. So I definitely see in 3 to 5 years, me and my family in Saint George in warm weather and I see myself in a position where I have something for me that's fulfilling and fun and something that's my very own, but also still able to go watch my kids sporting events and still be at home to help them with homework at night and cook them dinner and put them in bed and um kind of just do it all, but I definitely am not looking to just have something be temporary and just change here and there and, and just keep changing. I am looking for something that's, you know, gonna be a long term fit, that's gonna be 25 plus years for me. And I just want to continue to grow and do the very best in whatever position I end up in.

Who do you think of for; motivation, inspiration and direction? Why

Meghan Parker: Uh the first very first and most important person I turn to and look to for inspiration, motivation and any kind of help that I need in my life is Jesus. I always will put him first and I will make decisions based stuff of inspiration that he gives me and the way that he guides me. And I truly believe that if he's number one in your life and you always put him first, everything will work out like every decision I make. I, I like to pray about it. I like to get inspiration and I like to be led by the spirit. And I always like to think what would Jesus do? What would he say? What, you know, he loved everybody, he was forgiving and he, he helped everybody loved everybody. And I just strive to be like him every day. So um I don't know if that's the kind of answer you were looking for to make it turn religious. But he will always be number one and most important.

What gives you a sense of Purpose?

Meghan Parker: Um having a family obviously gives me a sense of purpose that gives me a reason to wake up every morning and do my very best and live my best life and raise a happy, healthy family. Um But also having things for myself, give me a sense of purpose, which is why I think I'm at this point in my life where I am looking for something that's just for me and yeah, something, something that I can continue to grow in and, and move up and have, you know, like goals to reach that I can keep growing in. But something that's outside of the family, that's for me that I can work hard in and find a sense of accomplishment in. And I like to achieve goals. I am an athlete obviously. So I'm very competitive. I, I like to win. I like to achieve goals. I'm a hard worker. Um that, that kind of stuff also gives me a sense of accomplishment and it's very rewarding when you do accomplish goals and see yourself growing and improving.

What does success look like to you?

Meghan Parker: Success to me would look different for different things. Um Right now in my life, I think um success in the professional and financial world for our family would look like um not having to live paycheck to paycheck and not being worried about, you know, bills or should we pay this bill or get groceries this month or how are we gonna pay this kid athletic stuff? So, success like right now that's important right now to me is more financial, financial freedom and being able to just kind of not have to worry about money and get groceries when we need it and pay all the bills and let the kids be involved in any kind of extracurricular activities that they would like to do or if I wanted to, you know, go get my hair done, go get my hair done and not have to worry about money and have a good stable house, nice house for my family to live in and just kind of have some financial freedom. I think that's the kind of success I'm looking for right now. Um That's always kind of been an issue living off of one income because my husband's always been working and I've mostly been the stay at home mom and one income, especially with the way the economy has gone has gotten harder and harder to live off of. Um, we've made it work. I'm real good at being frugal and budgeting and, and figuring that stuff out and finding ways to save. But, but I think some more financial freedom would be what success looks to me like right now.

What would be your top 3 book recommendations regardless of genre and why?

Meghan Parker: So I love to read. I really love True. I'm into True Crime right now. Been listening to a lot of True Crime podcasts. Um But some books and book series that I have loved, which might sound weird because I'm 38 years old, almost 40 years old. But the ones that I would recommend that I really enjoyed are the Hunger Games series, the Twilight series and the Divi the Divergent series. I just love that kind of stuff. I love the books. I love the movies. That's the kind of genre I like and also True Crime podcasts. So those are the three that I would recommend.
