Speaker: Cori Hopkins

Start by letting us know who you are, what position you are applying, and in what city/state.

Cori Hopkins : Hello, my name is Corey Hopkins and I am applying for the medical office manager um in Weatherford Texas for the Hearing and Brain Center.

Why should we hire you?

Cori Hopkins : Why should you hire me? Um I am a self starter. I am a motivated employee. Um I follow rules, follow procedure protocols, everything else. Um I look at where I work and the office that I'm at uh and the employees there, I, I look at it as a team environment, not um you know, demanding on, oh, you have to do this. It's I include everybody in decisions uh when necessary obviously. Um and then um uh you know, I make sure that finances are in line calendaring events if there are office meetings that need to take place. Um And if there is an hr issue, I will then pull the said employee off to the side by themselves and talk with them. It's not something that is to be discussed in front of others if it is a bad situation. Um If there is something to where we are like having an office party or what have you, I engage the employees um to get their take and what they would like to see and cater it towards them. Not just here. It is, this is what we're doing. Um If there are projects that need to be done. And some of those are a come across as a fire project and it needs to be done right away. Um I will prioritize and make that switch to put me and my team on that said project until it is complete. Um I will also review um their schedules and see what they have in front of them um and see who would be the best candidate to move forward on those said projects. Um, overall, I am, I feel, uh a fair manager, a fair employee and um willing to learn new things and, um, just dedicated and I put forth my full effort. I love my jobs. Um, I enjoy working and I like to stay busy.

What is your greatest accomplishment so far?

Cori Hopkins : My greatest acco accomplishment, excuse me, um is within the work setting is I have taught myself to be open minded and um looking to and, and, and exploring ideas and options of stepping outside of my comfort zone, um which we all know that's not the easiest to do um in my personal life that is, I have bought two homes. Um I was quite proud of myself for that. And um so that was something that I didn't foresee myself doing, but I stepped outside my comfort zone and did that. So those right now are my greatest accomplishments.

Describe your ‘perfect’ day?

Cori Hopkins : My perfect day would be coming into the office, having everybody show up, have our meeting, our morning meeting, huddle discuss what the plans are for the day. I'll look to see what is ahead of us um, on that day and going forward. Um Well, I understand that there would be hiccups in the day and, but to have it go as smoothly as possible. Um, and to have a happy environment, uh a feel good environment, um, it's kind of difficult to say a perfect day because really nothing is ever perfect. But, um, we understand that there's hiccups and everything, but my perfect day would be to accomplish the task tasks that were set forth, um, after reviewing what we have. And if we have those fires that need to be put out, we can jump on those and tackle those tasks accordingly and have everything accomplished as needed.

In the next 3-5 years where do you see yourself personally and professionally. Share as many details as you are comfortable with.

Cori Hopkins : Where do I see myself in the next 3 to 5 years? Well, I'm gonna back up, um, a little bit to within the next 6 to 8 months, um, or sooner. Um, I plan on being down in the weather for an area full time. Um, and again, that's dependent upon my job aspect. Um, but I will also, um, I would like to be managing an office and having people under me. I enjoy having people report to me and coming to me for questions, issues, problems. Um, I have always been told that I listen to people and that I give them ideas and information without actually directing them on how to go at one point. I think one person even said that I would make a good, uh, therapist. Um, but on that, that's on a professional level. I, I just enjoy working with people and, uh, taking care of the tasks that are in with the office setting. I do have my associate's degree in business and I also have another one in office management. I believe it is along with two certificates for that, um, for personal life. Um, next 3 to 5 years um, you know, building, I guess you can call it My Empire or what have you, um, purchasing a home there in the Weatherford area. Um, few acres, having my dog, maybe another dog as well. Having, um, my mother-in-law unit so my mom can be there and she can be close to me, um, having my family around and hopefully finding that significant other that I can't be away from, um, in a good way. So, uh, there's also a few medical issues that I've had. Um, and then, but those are pretty much under control. Um, just one thing that I've learned to deal with over these past four years is that life is a roller coaster and you never know what hand you're gonna get dealt with. So, um, overall professional and, um, personal lives, 3 to 5 years. I want to succeed in both areas. I want to have a great life, fun, have family around family and friends and enjoying however much longer I'm gonna be around on this planet and having my family around.

Who do you think of for; motivation, inspiration and direction? Why

Cori Hopkins : Who do I think of for motivation, direction and inspiration. Well, um many years ago, at one of my former positions, um the CEO of the company that I worked for, um I had applied for his admin position and I got it. Um He had kind of taken me underneath his wing and we worked well together. He would give me back constructive criticism if there was something that I had done wrong. I took that and ran with it. Um And that ended up having me go to school, get my associates degree. Eventually, I do plan on finishing my bachelor's. Um I've just had a lot of personal things that have came up. Um But on a daily basis in my current role, um I like to inspire and motivate others. And so by that, I do send out daily quotes um every morning um show, you know, saying, you know, positive things, you know, good, good thoughts starting the day off, right? Um Those affirmations are kind of get you going. Sometimes some people need a reminder and they forget and they see that and it makes them think again. Yes, I can do this. Um seeing those go out and reading those affirmations every day, uh motivates me to do what I do. Um I love helping people and seeing the smiles and the production that is coming through from those people are great. If I could still be in contact with that manager, I would. Um I know he's moved down to Arizona somewhere. I'm not sure if he's passed or not. Um After the company dissolved, we all went our separate ways and got different jobs and what have you. Um So with all that being said, my former boss, Scott is he will always be in the back of my mind telling me and I can hear him saying things every day. Oh, make sure you do this, make sure you do that. Um have consistency throughout your reports. May it be, you know, a semicolon here, eyes dotted there. Um The format color everything. So, um I was very, very lucky to have him as a mentor and just knowing what all went into that has made me, I feel a better person all the way around.

What gives you a sense of Purpose?

Cori Hopkins : What gives me a sense of purpose. Uh, life. Uh The reason for that is in 2020 in June of 2020 I think it was at the end of June, I was not feeling too well and was in the hospital for about a week, ended up having, um, ulcerative colitis came home for about a day and a half and then I ended up going back into the emergency room due to me being in excruciating pain at that point. Um, they ended up scheduling me for emergency surgery to have a total colectomy. So at that point, I had my large intestines removed. I had an ileostomy bag on my side and when something like that happens, it kind of gives you, um, a better outlook on life and makes you really think about what's important to you. Um I went through all of that, not doubting myself, not letting the depression aspect get the best of me. I know some people that is hard to do, but I looked at it as a second chance and eating better, living better and trying not to be so stressed and everything else is a bit bigger picture. I am more in touch with myself. Um, I don't take things for granted, um, which I really never did anyways. But II I look at each New day as a blessing. Um, so having that surgery, you know, having to have multiple transfusions and what have you losing all of my hair and it's now grown back. But that gave me a whole different outlook and a different purpose in life. And that was just to be the best that I can um be healthy and live life to the fullest and have no regrets. Um It was just a big wake up call for me and I've learned a lot of, a lot of different things from that. So I feel that I am uh strong within myself. Um And that's my purpose is doing the best that I can.

What does success look like to you?

Cori Hopkins : Success for me is simple. I don't, I don't look for much and that success for me is to be happy in life, um to have a great job, um have family around. Um and to have something to show what you have accomplished over your life. Um And knowing that what you do can also help others and accomplish what they want to. Um You know, the, the success of me is also in the work environment is also dependent upon my team. And the company that I work for.

What would be your top 3 book recommendations regardless of genre and why?

Cori Hopkins : My three book recommendations would be, one would be cooking. Um, you can always learn something from those wonderful chefs out there and they make those cookbooks to give you what they've learned over the time. Uh, the second one would be, um, goodness, I like mystery novels, but I'm also a kind of a romance type of person too. Um, those there, the mystery, it's, it keeps me on my, you know, toes like, oh, it's a page turner. Same with the romance. Um, I remember picking up a book several years ago and I did not put it down for several hours. Next thing I knew it was, I think I picked it up at eight o'clock at night and I didn't put it down till three or four o'clock in the morning after realizing what time it was and knowing that I had to get up in a few hours to go to work. So, um, I had to make myself put the book down. Uh, the third one would be probably, yeah. Uh, uh, how to, um, in many different fields. Um, there are certain areas that I don't know, like about, um, for instance, um, you know, I have some gardening experience but I want to expand on that. So I would do that or raising chickens, you know, all that other good stuff. Um, I am, I'm inquisitive and I like to learn things and so books that, you know, keep the mystery alive, um, are interesting to where I can learn things from them and also, um, keep my interest and, you know, have that imagination going. So.
