Speaker: Caitriona Staunton, VP People, Primer

What were you hoping to get out of the Strengths workshop?

Caitriona Staunton: I reached out to Hayley because I was recommended to her by a colleague here who had worked with Hayley over the years and I really wanted to leverage the awesome framework of strengths finders to help really unlock the knowledge in my team about our strengths and where, we can really lean into, you know, what we do best and sort of build that shared empathy and understanding between team members who are 100% remote and globally distributed to never sharing that office space.

What’s one meaningful change you’ve noticed in yourself or your team since the workshop?

Caitriona Staunton: The most meaningful changes I can think of, having completed the workshop is that my team really understand each other better. And so when it comes to taking on a new task or project, we instinctively know the the different roles that we will play best. But also when we're trying to collaborate and solve a problem. We start to think about the problem in different ways and rather than thinking that there is one way to to approach a problem, we actually start to have started to come at it from lots of different angles, which I think has been really useful, because again, it's not about trying to overcome sort of, Perceived blind spots or weaknesses, but really understanding that there's lots of different ways to to solve things together. And I think having that sort of shared language and shared understanding has been really impactful for the team.

What would you say to a team leader who’s considering running a Strengths workshop?

Caitriona Staunton: I would absolutely recommend any team leader to consider running a strengths workshop. I have been in the people space for close to 20 years now and have done many different workshops with different frameworks. Strengths for me differentiates itself. Because it really brings a positive perspective on how diverse people are, how, where they get energy from and how they can really use what's already an innate strength to tackle challenges ahead of them. It also gives companies and teams really nice shared language so that they can sort of build that mutual respect and understanding and context for what each other do.
