How did you feel before coming to Hatt Clinic?
Allan Windmill: Hello, my name's Alan, and I'm 81 years of age. Throughout my life, I've been very fortunate in having enjoyed excellent health, but 9 years ago, I suffered an infection in my right hip following a hip replacement operation. This was followed by shingles in my left ear, which not only resulted in total deafness in that ear, but also severe balance issues. And to top it all, 4 years ago, I suffered a broken left quad tendon above my knee following a slip in my garden. I was discharged from further NHS treatment when I could walk a short distance using a three-wheel walker, but the prospect of having to use this for the rest of my life, I found very disconcerting, as I have always been very active and sporty. Thankfully, in May 22, a neighbour recommended me to the Hatt Clinic in Frome and after an initial assessment, I was introduced to one of their physio coaches, Craig Nurse. Craig recognised that not only did I suffer from severe balance issues, but in both legs, the muscle groups needed strengthening, and he quickly put together a plan to achieve this. For the next 2 years, I attended Hatts, Frome and Devizes clinics and took advantage of not only the fantastic facilities, but also the very warm and uh and welcoming atmosphere in both locations. In late 24, uh Craig turned his attention to my balance issues, and in the following nine months, due to his patience, skill, and tenacity, I am now walking totally unaided most of the time, but on unfamiliar or uneven surfaces with a walking stick. My journey with Hatt clinic has been over 3 years, and hopefully at some time in the not too distant future, I will be able to walk totally unaided thanks to Craig and the Hatt clinic.
