What motivated you to go back to high school at this time in your life?
Shyanne H.: My biggest motivation is definitely my children. I have two sons and they are the reason I do everything that I do, and they definitely played a huge role in this, and this was very big for me.
Shyanne H.: I learned about Graduation Alliance on Google. Actually, I was just having a moment of reflecting on my life and I told myself, it's really that time that you do something with yourself, with your life. And so I decided to just do some research and I found you guys and I'm beyond blessed that I did because I actually received my diploma within 2 months and I was told that it was gonna be a while before I graduated, so that just goes to show anything is possible, it just depends on your mindset and the steps you're willing to take to get to where you wanna be in life and that's exactly what I did. The best part of the program was consistency. Without the consistency of the teachers, I don't know what I would have done, so I just wanna say thank you guys, all of the teachers who have helped me.
How has your life or mindset changed since you graduated?
Shyanne H.: It has definitely changed both my mindset and my life. Before, I wasn't really able to do as much as I can do now, considering I have my diploma now. Before getting hired on at certain jobs was very tough without a diploma. So now that I have a lot of job opportunities available to me, I can move forward and enjoy better financial stability. Being able to move forward and accomplish all the goals that I have set for myself and walk into this new life, a new me is beyond measures.
What are your plans now that you've graduated?
Shyanne H.: My plans now that I have received my high school diploma is just to continue to push myself to do better. I'm just gonna continue to work and provide for my kids. That is a priority. They are everything to me, so making sure that they are good, making sure that they are accomplishing every goal that they have set for themselves as well is a priority. I really pray that I get into cosmetology soon, that is something I am pursueing. I love to do makeup, I would love to do hair, nails, so that is something that makes me happy, that is something I would love to do.
What piece of advice do you have for people who may be interested in this program?
Shyanne H.: Students, do not be hard on yourself. It's OK to discipline yourself when there are distractions, but don't ever think that you do not got it because you got it you got it, and you will rock this, and no matter how many people in your life tell you you can't. Tell yourself that you can because the more that you get into that mindset, the more you'll realize things will start to change for you. By every goal that you accomplish, it's just more blessings coming your way. It doesn't have anything to do with pleasing others. Just do this all for you. Do this for you and your family and just remind yourself every day that you are capable.
