Speaker: Andrew D.
What led you to leave high school as a teen? What motivated you to go back to high school at this time in your life?
Andrew D.: I left high school as a teenager because I had a job where I was making decent money and I figured I was behind in school anyway, so might as well just put all my effort into the job and see where that could take me. I decided to go back because even though I was fairly successful in my career, I still had a nagging feeling that I just left it unfinished, you know, I felt as though I was able to do it and so I wanted to prove it to myself that I was able to finish it and complete it.
Why did you choose this program?
Andrew D.: I chose this program because after reading the reviews online of multiple programs, I felt like this was the one that I had the most people that were graduating from it. And I also felt like the reviews themselves, they had glowing recommendations as far as support from the faculty and the teachers and the tutors and stuff like that. And it was free.
What parts of the program helped you make it to graduation?
Andrew D.: The things that helped me most make it to graduation first would be the coach. I had a great coach, Coach Janet, and you know, so I felt like she really believed in me and she supported me and, you know, I didn't want to let her down. The second thing that helped me was the, the ability to redo any assignment that you needed, you know, if you felt like you could do better on that assignment, if you could just tweak a couple things and get 10 more points, you were able to do that. And the last thing that helped me was the dashboard to be able to actually see where you're at, what your grade is, how many assignments you could do to get to an A, what you needed to change. That was really helpful and that, you know, made me feel like I knew exactly what I was doing at every step of the way.
How has your life and/or mindset changed since earning your high school diploma? What are your plans now that you've graduated?
Andrew D.: I felt like earning my diploma has changed my mindset as far as, you know, I'm not a quitter, I just chose not to do something and I chose to do it a little bit later than other people, but I was still able to accomplish it. I just did it on my time. As far as, you know, plans after graduation, it's also helped me get into a different career field that I had never thought I'd be in, you know, being in aerospace is something that I just that I would never be able to get in without a diploma, but it helped.
What's one piece of encouragement you'd offer someone who is considering this program?
Andrew D.: My encouragement for anyone wanting to consider this program is to just try it. Once you actually get started on it and see how easy it is, you're going to want to finish. You're already there, you're already one step of the way, you know, you've signed up. Just give it a shot and you know, use the tutors, use the coaches, use every resource that you have. That's why they're there. Use your notes and just get it done.
