Happy Women’s History Month/International Women's Day - How are you celebrating?
Karen Cahn: What's up, Google Land? How are you? Happy Women's History Month. What am I doing to celebrate? Such a good question. I am doing whatever brings me joy. That's what I'm doing. I've been seeing a lot of live music. I turned 49 about a month ago and I realized that like, I'm at half my life so I better start like really enjoying it. So, in celebration of Women's History Month 2023, I'm doing whatever I want. And that's the truth. It's literally the truthful answer ever.
2023's International Women's Day theme is #EmbraceEquity. How do you think (the collective) we can work together to impact positive change?
Karen Cahn: Great question, Google, how do we work together to make positive change as a collective? And generally, when I want to make a change, whether it's a small change or seemingly a large change, I do something about it. I actually just like take action, physical action, I don't know, there's a lot of people that like to talk about change or complain about stuff, or hope and pray for change. But unless you actually do something, physically do something. Like if you want to change your local electorate, make phone calls, knock on doors, you know. There's lots of ways people can actually do something regardless of your physical abilities. So, yeah, I would just say stop talking about it, stop thinking about it and actually do something.
What advice would you give to the next generation of women as they begin their careers?
Karen Cahn: Women of future generations, hello. They've asked me to give you some career advice and I'm gonna give you the best piece of advice that you're gonna ge. You ready? Great. Work really, really hard. Bust your butts. Nothing's gonna be handed to you. And if it is handed to you, then your boss is a loser. Essentially, if you want to be successful in whatever you're doing, whether you are teaching, whether you are a scuba diver instructor, whether you're a dog walker, whether you're an executive, whether you're, doesn't matter what you end up doing. And by the way, like you're probably gonna switch careers like two or three times during your life. Career-hood. I might have just made up a word. The net net is work super hard.
