Why is International Women’s Day important to you? How are you celebrating?
Nathaly Alarcón: International Women's Day is an important day for me, because we can all join to recognize and celebrate other women's jobs and accomplishments. It's also an important date to support each other, inspire one another and find ways to gain more equality. And I'd like to celebrate this day mainly reunited with my tech community.
2022's International Women's Day theme is #BreakTheBias. Can you speak to biases we can work to break in our communities and/or workplaces?
Nathaly Alarcón: Regarding tech, we can help to break the bias, empowering and supporting and mentoring women to take more active role within their daily jobs and communities. And I think that also we must improve the processes of evaluation for soft and hard skills within companies so we can gain more equality within the same jobs for, for all, for all.
What advice would you give to the next generation of women as they begin their careers?
Nathaly Alarcón: Well we can do it all regarding tech. It's not complicated actually. It is fun. It just take one step at a time, one book, one language, one algorithm. There are plenty of sources out there and if you don't like a one, there is no issue there. There are other sources that you can try. Set your goals and try not to rely on others. Your own effort will make you succeed. And if you need help, our community is getting bigger and stronger, so go out there and find us.
