Why is Women’s History Month important to you? How are you celebrating?
Ashlea Parrish: Women's History Month is important because it's acknowledging what women have accomplished in the past, and it's continuing to pave the path for what women can accomplish in the future.
2022's International Women's Day theme is #BreakTheBias. Can you speak to biases we can work to break in our communities and/or workplaces?
Ashlea Parrish: There are many biases that impact women and underrepresented groups across the country. We need to ensure that we continue to work together to break the language barrier, because this is one that's very much still on the surface every day, and individuals are alienated by their teams. Individuals are not given the same opportunities as others because they have a language difference. And it's something that we need to embrace to ensure that we see diversity as part of the solution and not as part of the problem.
What advice would you give to the next generation of women as they begin their careers?
Ashlea Parrish: Advice I would give the next generation of women as they begin their careers is to really hone in on their self confidence and self worth. Without confidence, you can say, and you can do a lot of things, but you have to ensure that you're being perceived as someone who is capable and someone who is able to be considered for the next opportunity. So positioning yourself and being confident is what is going to allow you to move forward in your career and also advance in your career.
