What is Google Cloud Cortex Framework Data Foundation for SAP?
Lucia Subatin: Let me start with the Google Cloud Cortex Framework. This is our new approach to making it easy for customers to innovate in the cloud with less risk, complexity, and costs by providing you with scenario-driven architectures, accelerators, and integration services. The Data Foundation for SAP is a brand new release focusing on helping customers gain insights and reduce time to value with accelerator content and templates for SAP data in BigQuery, our petabyte scale data warehouse.
Why would I want to build a Data Foundation in BigQuery?
Lucia Subatin: While data across organizations grows rapidly in volume and variety, SAP sits at the core of companies that seek to gain differentiated insights by complementing their data sets with all kinds of signals, like those coming from Google Trends, Ads, Maps, or social media. BigQuery automatically scales to meet the needs of growing enterprise data, both SAP and non SAP, offering a managed, open platform based on standard SQL. BigQuery complements SAP investments and helps you differentiate with machine learning and gain fresh, unique insights about your business through your preferred visualization tool.
What’s included in the release?
Lucia Subatin: Out of the box, you get proven reference architectures for data analytics realized by integration patterns for SAP and BigQuery, so you may choose to leverage your existing integration investments or implement new ones to match your business needs. Once your SAP data is in BigQuery, you'll get change data capture processing scripts and pretty fine BigQuery data models to handle the specifics of SAP data structures and sample machine learning code for business scenarios like product recommendations. Users can visualize and further enrich data with plug-and-play Looker dashboarding templates and example solutions for demand shaping and all of this through automated customizable deployments.
What else is planned that may be of interest?
Lucia Subatin: The initial scope and focus of Cortex is to deliver accelerated value to SAP customers with operational reporting and consumer industry-focused data mart scenarios that we have just announced Later, Cortex is planned to scale to broader line of business and industry data mart scenarios starting in early 2022, followed by solution extensions with Google Cloud products, additional partner solutions and integration with additional enterprise applications targeted for later in 2022. So stay tuned!
