Video Transcript

Please introduce yourself and tell us what excites you most about joining the Good Shepherd community.

Mary Duncan: Hello, I'm Mary Duncan. I am Director of Development at Good Shepherd and I was lucky enough to join the staff last March and have some transition time with a colleague, who has since retired, but I have loved getting to know the families, the faculty, the staff, at Good Shepherd. It's just a very wonderful school community and I'm looking forward to getting to know even more of the families in the upcoming school year.

What is an interesting fact about yourself or something people may not know about you?

Mary Duncan: So, an interesting fact about myself that some people might not know is that I grew up in California, Southern California and also went to college in California. I did move to Dallas about 30 years ago, so I guess I consider myself a Texan now. But for anybody who's listening, who's also from California, I'd love to chat with you and we can catch up on some fun things about California, but as I said, moved here about 35 years ago. And so I am here to stay. The highlight

What is the best advice you ever received and who was it from?

Mary Duncan: The best advice I ever received was probably from a work colleague and that is listen more and speak less. So I try to do that both in my personal life and my professional life. And it's something that I try to always keep in the back of my mind. I do try to be really intentional about it, but it's something that I'm always working on and, has really served me well, both again in my work and hopefully in my relationships as well.

What's been the highlight of your summer?

Mary Duncan: And so I am here to stay. The highlight of my summer, that one is easy. So I was lucky enough to travel to Colorado with my husband and we got to visit Durango and Telluride. Both very beautiful places in Colorado. Very lovely, cool weather, great scenery and just a really relaxing time. Of course, got to meet lots of other Texans because whenever you go to California or Colorado, you get to meet lots of Texans. So anyway, we had a great trip and it was really relaxing.

What brings you joy?

Mary Duncan: in my relationships as well. Without question, my family is what brings me joy. I'm lucky enough to have two adult children here in the Dallas area and I get to see them and talk to them very often and they are the most important people in my life. Of course, my husband too. But it's really my family that brings me joy and we are also lucky enough to have a lot of extended family in the Dallas area as well. And we have lots of wonderful holidays together and special occasions. So I am very lucky to have family here and that is truly what brings me joy.
