Speaker: Mohammed Baba-Adamu, Damaturu, Nigeria
How (and why) are you taking action on climate change solutions in, for, and with your community?
Mohammed Baba-Adamu: Hello, good afternoon. My name is Mohammed Bawa Amu from US State Nigeria. Uh I am into climate action most notably through community outreach because in Yobe here, most notably in Northern Nigeria livelihood system of the local population is dependent on climate or is climate sensitive. And due to low literacy level of the locals, people are exposed to poverty and socio economic conditions that require attention. And for me to make contribution, I engage in community outreach, educating the farmers, the herder and other community members on the importance of locally managing or locally adopting the climate realities. And as a result of that, a lot has been achieved or a lot, a lot is now recorded in terms of achievement as to how uh people are now becoming more climate enlightened and applying the methodologies and advancing the knowledge of climate science and climate change vulnerability in Nigeria. As a result of that, this opportunity greatly will help in managing the livelihood system of the local population. So this is very critical in Coor Nigeria.
Who or what inspires/inspired you to care about climate change and climate solutions?
Mohammed Baba-Adamu: Well, I am into climate advocacy basically because the library system of the local population here in Co Northern Nigeria is dependent on climate, principally temperature and precipitation. And because of their vulnerability level and how their livelihood system is tied to the climate and grossly lacking the imaginary awareness due to low literacy level. Then I have to invest in climate education and me and climate outreach in order to create the marginal awareness about climate change and vulnerability of the local population in an attempt to save their livelihood and economic viability in the context of variable and changing climatic conditions.
