Speaker: Matthew M., Huntington, New York, United States
How (and why) are you taking action on climate change solutions in, for, and with your community?
Matthew M.: Hi, my name is Matthew. We, I live in Long Island, New York and I'm a current student at my local high school. I am actively participating in my community to address the climate crisis each day. In my area, water pollution is extremely common and flooding is extremely common as well. And it is my job as a young advocate to participate in beach cleanups in my community and to research and educate myself on climate solutions. As of right now, I'm working in a research based project on water pollution. I am 14 years old.
Who or what inspires/inspired you to care about climate change and climate solutions?
Matthew M.: The devastating effects of climate change and the increase in water pollution in my area has inspired me to educate myself further on climate solutions and to take more action against climate change in my area. One of the local beaches I would visit often in the summer had been affected by climate change. And each summer and the problem has just been getting worse as a young advocate. It is my duty to inform and to take action against the climate crisis. This event and the this period of time has inspired me to take action against climate change and to be more involved in my community.
