Speaker: Hudson Levin, New York, New York, United States
How (and why) are you taking action on climate change solutions in, for, and with your community?
Hudson Levin: OK. So I'm taking action of climate change within my community because I'm educating myself on the matter while also educating my classmates and peers and others who may not know a lot about climate change. And I'm trying to educate them on what I could do to help benefit our community and what they can also do. I'm a part of the climate activist club in school and in this club, I'm helping promote the issue and spreading awareness to the people around me.
Who or what inspires/inspired you to care about climate change and climate solutions?
Hudson Levin: So what inspired me to take part and recognize climate change was when one day I was in, I was in Long Island with my grandparents who have a house there. Um We decided to go to the beach that day and we're in the car, we're driving, ready to go to the beach. Then we see a sign that the beach was closed. There's a security guy who's working at the beach and we're like, so why is it closed? Why is the beach shut down today? And he told us how there's so much plastic in the ocean and in the sand that the beach wasn't even healthy to go to today, like it isn't safe to go in the ocean. And so my family and I, we went down to the beach and we took a look at it and it was really unbelievable what I saw. We saw so much plastic in the water, just like floating up in the water, so much plastic in the sand. And it was the first time I ever really witnessed climate change like firsthand. So it inspired me to make a difference in my community and start to raise awareness towards it.
