Speaker: Gershom Mhlanga, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe

How (and why) are you taking action on climate change solutions in, for, and with your community?

Gershom Mhlanga: Hello everybody. My name is Ghoga. I'm from Zimbabwe, a country in Africa. I'm a university student pursuing a degree in industrial and manufacturing engineering. I'm working on a project called Project MBA. It's an initiative aimed at giving hope to the society and the community. It is mainly focused on offense old people, especially women to give them financial hope as well as contribute to climate action. We are tackling the issue of plastic waste pollution by coming up with easy diy waste to convert the plastic into useful products that can be sold to generate an income. Thus, we are giving hope to the old people so that when they sell these products that they make, they can generate an income for themselves and also contribute to the climate action. This is what we do. We convert the plastic waste waste to mat use of products such as flower boards, kitchen countertops, kitchen mats and kitchen boards, floor polish for the for the homes and customized necklaces and key holders. These are all useful products that are used by the general people and as these uh women and Children uh that we train, make these products and sell them, they generate an income for themselves and thus they are giving, we're giving them hope and at the same time, we're contributing to the climate action to uh to end the, the, the problem of plastic waste pollution. Thank you.
