Speaker: Edarus Hassan, Malindi, Kenya
How (and why) are you taking action on climate change solutions in, for, and with your community?
Edarus Hassan: Hello, welcome to the project Drawdown. My names are Ears Hassan. I'm from Kenya Kee County and actually I'm a student. So how do we engage in climate solutions? I engage in climate solutions personally through beach cleanups, ecological and mangrove restorations. Why, why am I interested or why should we do such things too to take care of our climates, to control climate change and find climate solutions. So we do that. First of all, in environmental preservation, climate change possesses a significant threat to biodiversity and ecosystem worldwide. Therefore, by actively participating in climate solutions, individual business and governments can help to protect endangered species and maintain ecosystem services vital for human well being. Secondly, this is done to ensure food and water security. Climate change impacts agricultural productivity, water availability and food distribution system. Thereby, this threatens food and water security for millions of people worldwide. Thereby contributing to climate solutions can help safeguarding food production system, promoting sustainable water management practices and enhance resilience to climate related shocks. Well, thank you.
Who or what inspires/inspired you to care about climate change and climate solutions?
Edarus Hassan: Welcome to project Drawdown. And my names are Aars Hassan from Kenya Kiff County. So let's talk about who or what inspired you or inspired you to care about climate change and climate solutions. Well, climate change, this refers to long term shifts in global and original climate patterns. Primarily this is contributed to human activities, it is led by human activities. So therefore, what inspires me to care about climate change? Actually, climate change affects the local, the local farmers and local people. How how does it affect us through agricultural productivity? Well, many countries or a country's economy also measures through agricultural productivity. Therefore, climate change affects agricultural productivity while livestock starves and many lead to death. National Drought Management Authority and National Environmental Management Authority, Nema have taken part to care about climate change. Well, this is way through creating awareness and promoting sustainability. Sustainability refers to a holistic approach to meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Thereby the community can use the available resources well without compromising their future generation. Hence, they can all benefit from it there. By doing that, we can all conserve our climate and we can all achieve a realistic approach. Thank you.
