Speaker: Burabari Nleera , Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria
How (and why) are you taking action on climate change solutions in, for, and with your community?
Burabari Nleera : Uh Hello, my name is Barbara and I am a Nigerian. I'm actually taking action for climate change because um it's actually the right thing to do. It's a global crisis. And uh we all see that this is what we need to do. And secondly, my community, Yoni has been greatly impacted by environmental pollutions which has led to the loss of livelihoods lives, illnesses are lots, lots, lots of impacts that are detrimental to our health. And there are a lot of persons out there that do not have this information about climate change and they see everything like this is just happening and we don't know where the source is coming from. So I'm actually doing an an education, climate awareness education and as well trying to, you know, curb the effect of misinformation on climate change and environmental degradation and as well help those in the local communities to be aware of this global crisis because sincerely, a lot of persons are less informed about climate change. And it's still a very huge challenge in the region where I am from. And most importantly, incorporating youth into the climate change space, especially in young women, young women, the godchild into the climate change space so that they can understand what is leadership alongside of climate change and as well, look um find ways and solutions to make a better community for us and the entire region. Thank you.
Who or what inspires/inspired you to care about climate change and climate solutions?
Burabari Nleera : OK. So actually what really inspired me to care about the climate change was um they um effect of it on the people of the region because seeing climate change is not just something that has effect on just the ecosystem is not just about the environment, landscape, the natural landscape and all of that, but the communities has it has great impact on the communities. And when I see communities suffer from what they do, not really know where it's coming from. It's really, really, really got to me. So I decided to take to tall this path because I believe that my actions can actually bring about a better solution in my region. Thank you.
