Video Transcript

Speaker: Zoë, Quick Start Tutor, Vision College

Where do you fit in the wider Activate Family?

Zoë: Kia ora koutou, ko Zoë ahau, I am a QuickStart Tutor here at Vision College.

How does Vision College show love to others?

Zoë: At Vision everybody who walks through the door gets a big smile and a Hello. It's one of the things like you walk around this place and, like everybody is smiling at you. I think that's because, uh, we acknowledge and see that every single person is a beautiful masterpiece by our Creator and has His fingerprints all over them. And so we want everybody to know and to feel that they are special and that they are seen and that they are loved.

How do you personally show love to others in your role?

Zoë: I show love to those around me. By looking to see who they really are, to speak words of love and life and truth and hope over them. Sometimes, we don't see the greatness that is within us. And we need others to be able to speak that. And, so that's what I try and do, is to ask God to show me, who He sees these people as, and to speak back over them.

Where have you seen transformation taking place?

Zoë: We had a girl start with us a couple of months ago. And we've had some interesting moments with her over those couple of months as she's found her place in her space here. But when she first started, her carer said that she thought she was pretty much illiterate because, she really struggled in any space where she had to engage in any kind of reading or writing. However, one day, just the other week, her tutor was away, for an appointment, and she had missed the day before. And so when she turned up, and found out that her tutor was going to be late, she was a little bit unsure about stuff. But then she looked up and saw the work from yesterday was still on the board. And so she just grabbed a book and just sat down and started writing and answering questions and just engaging in the work. And, it was just amazing to see the transformation of this young person, who went from those around her thinking she was illiterate, to choosing to sit down and engage in learning and writing. It was so great to see

When have you smiled, knowing God is at work?

Zoë: Yes, God moments for me, when I see students that are breaking free of lies that they have told about themselves or they believed about themselves, I should say or that others have said about themselves and they've seen that they are, more than what they have previously thought that they are that they can do amazing things, that they are capable, that they are loved, that they are funny, that they have gifts and skills that they have a future. Those are the, yes, God moments for me when we see those little breakthroughs that happen all the time in students' lives.

What motivates you to love others?

Zoë: What motivates me is how we can partner with God and what He is doing here in this place about how we can do small things and love. And He just breathes life and hope and truth and healing and love and those small actions, and we get to partner with Him and what His spirit is doing here.
