Speaker: Dr. Clare Harford, GP & Clinical Director of Little London Medical
Where do you fit in the Activate whaanau?
Dr. Clare Harford: Kia ora My name is Doctor Clare Harford, and I'm a GP and the Clinical Director at Little London Medical.
How does Little London Medical show love to others?
Dr. Clare Harford: At Little London we show love to our patients by doing our best to create a peaceful, welcoming environment where people feel safe and cared for. We work hard to provide personalised healthcare where the health needs of a whole person are considered -their physical health, their mental and emotional health and their spiritual health needs, as well as that of the whaanau, and the community as a whole.
How do you personally show love to others in your role?
Dr. Clare Harford: At work I show love to my coworkers and my patients by treating everyone with kindness and respect. I try to keep a smile on my face. Even on the really busy days. I try really hard to listen to my patients deeply so they feel heard, and so we can collaborate together to make sure that they achieve the best possible outcomes for their health.
Where have you seen transformation taking place?
Dr. Clare Harford: So recently, I have been journeying with a patient who has had an unexpected serious diagnosis. I gave the bad news, organised urgent treatment for her and explained what was happening. More importantly, though, we have been able to explore the emotional and spiritual needs she has as she deals with this diagnosis. We have prayed together. We have explored her faith in the situation and looked at what healing means and where God is at this difficult time. She is not there yet, but it's a real privilege to be on the journey with her.
What makes you smile, knowing God is at work?
Dr. Clare Harford: 20 years ago, God gave me a vision for a Christian medical clinic in Hamilton. This past year we have started scoping and planning for a medical clinic at the Ruakura campus. It is really exciting to see all the people and organisations who are reaching out, out of the blue to ask if they can work with us, collaborate with us, doors are opening and we can see a clear way forward. It is really exciting to see what God is going to do next.
What motivates you to love others?
Dr. Clare Harford: I love others because God loves me. Every person on this earth is created in the image of God and worthy of love. He's done so much for all of us, and an expression of gratitude is to love others in return.
