Speaker: Tiffany Costa, Chemical Engineering Student at Georgia Institute of Technology
What key challenges did you need help with before you started using Genio?
Tiffany Costa: Hi, my name is Tiffany Costa, and I'm a freshman at Georgia Tech studying chemical engineering. I have multiple sclerosis, a neurodegenerative disease which affects my mobility and my fatigue. I'm not able to write a lot of notes and I'm not able to write them very fast and for very long because I get so tired. My muscles just get very tired very easily. So for my accommodations, I was offered a subscription to Genio and it has been a life changer. I used it all of my first semester for every single lecture. I loved using the voice to text where I could just record what my professors were saying. Later, when I would get back to my dorm, when I was comfortable, when I showered, when I was ready for bed, I would just look over everything that my professor would say and just write my own notes at my own pace, which I really enjoyed, especially being at such a rigorous university. I feel like Genio is very useful, especially for my personal issues. Thank you so much.
How has Genio helped you with those challenges and impacted your learning experience?
Tiffany Costa: I started using Genio in my philosophy lectures since those are very lecture based. Basically everything my professor was telling me was going to be on my test. So I started using it there and it was very useful. It was great to not have to write down everything my professor was saying because he never pulls up notes or anything. He just talks. So I love just looking back at it too when I was finally able to write, when I was able to walk back to class. Especially in the summer, I felt so tired. I felt like I couldn't get to class, but just knowing that I could go to class, if I could just make it to class, I wouldn't have to write anything down that I would have the ease of just recording what my teachers were saying helped me a lot. I was also diagnosed with ADHD in the middle of the semester and I realized it was really hard for me to formulate ideas to put on paper, so having Genio as this online note-taking service was very useful where I could type out my notes too. Thank you.
