Speaker: Hannah Cameron, Student at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

What key challenges did you need help with before you started using Genio (formerly Glean)?

Hannah Cameron: My name is Hannah Cameron. I've been studying, or I'm studying Computer Science at UNC Chapel Hill. and I've been using Glean since midway through last semester, so like, October. I have found it such a good resource. I learned about it when I went to the the like learning support center at UNC and they have, a couple like ADHD and learning disability specialists, which I have ADHD and I was noting that I was really struggling figuring out what to take notes on in class and just in general, I felt like I wasn't absorbing the lecture because I felt like I had to take notes on everything. And she recommended to me Glean, and that's been such, honestly like such a lifesaver because I feel like that like now that I'm recording the lecture, I feel like I can just absorb the lecture, like I can just actually watch it, and I feel like I understand a lot more and then I can go back to the recording later. It's so nice to be able to take notes and stuff, especially if I zone out during class, which happens a lot. I can go like, you know, take a note of, oh I just zoned out, so go back and review this later. It's been such a such a lifesaver.

How has Genio (formerly Glean) helped you with those challenges and impacted your learning experience?

Hannah Cameron: So I really struggled with, like, in class, I felt like I had to be taking notes on everything and doing that, like I wasn't really absorbing a lot, so you know, getting like a recording. Means that I can look later and I can note when I'm recording, this is important, look at this later, lwrite this down in my notes. It's definitely been so nice that, lI normally will record the class, especially going alongside a lot of my classes at PowerPoints, and that's so nice to do in Glean, going along with those to organize it better. Pretty much like after most classes or a couple days after, I'll just go through the my Glean recordings and, you know, take notes, take the things that are important from that, and it really helps me like, I feel like sometimes in my notes I just copy everything verbatim, and I feel like that's not helpful. Like it really helps me get like key points, and that's helping me a lot more confident with studying.

Would you recommend Genio (formerly Glean) to other students?

Hannah Cameron: I definitely would and have, in fact, like definitely a lot of people have asked me, seeing that I record classes have asked me what I've used, I think it's so, so helpful. I think it's really, really good for anyone with ADHD or other learning disabilities or just struggles focusing in class, tends to zone out a lot. It's so, so nice to be able to, I don't feel stressed in class anymore because I'm OK, if I missed this sentence, that might be really important. I can go back and look at it later and take a note on it. It's really helped with stress on that.
