What key challenges did you need help with before you started using Genio (formerly Glean)?
Eclipse Cooper: I'm Eclipse, I'm studying computer information systems and I've been using Glean the past two semesters. A few challenges for me with studying are physical disability and mental disability, so I have ADHD and a couple other conditions that make studying and keeping track of things a little bit more difficult, and remembering things very difficult. So I was hoping to find like a note taking platform that I could sync with audio recording so I can easily reference notes, which Glean does, which is amazing. And additionally, I needed to be able to take digital notes instead of physical notes because my hands do not write very well for long periods of time. So Glean offers a lot of things that help with challenges that I normally face with school.
How has Genio (formerly Glean) helped you with those challenges and impacted your learning experience?
Eclipse Cooper: [Glean has] definitely impacted my living experience, and it was pretty much immediately after I started using Glean, I noticed I had much better organization. It was just like much easier to keep track of things, and I knew where all of my notes would be, I knew where the audio recording would be, and I could even go in and look at the audio recording and the notes at the same time. Which was great, and it really, it boosted my grades, I'm pretty sure. I don't have the proof because I started using it at the beginning of the semester, so it wasn't like I saw an increase in my grade, but I definitely saw an increase in my ability to take good notes, which are much easier to study from. And it definitely decrease my stress levels because knowing that I have good notes to refer back to is really helpful.
Eclipse Cooper: Oh, and a challenge that I mentioned with ADHD. It helps a ton with organization. Like I feel like I might have already mentioned that, but it really is really great for organization. Being able to just sort my notes, and then it's just so simple. I know exactly where they're gonna be is fantastic.
Would you recommend Genio (formerly Glean) to other students?
Eclipse Cooper: Definitely would recommend Glean to other students. In fact, I actually, in one of my classes that semester, one of my classmates had seen me using Glean, and she's like, Oh, that's so cool. How did you get like the audio recording to do that? And I'm like, Oh, it's a platform that the school provides for me since I have accommodations. And she's like, Oh, I have ADHD. I could really benefit from that. And I'm like, yeah, go get accommodations because they genuinely, they have helped so much. And having Glean in particular has really helped my academic progress. And I know I mentioned this already, but my organization, it is so great, to help with that. So I would recommend it to other students, especially if you're struggling with keeping organized or taking good notes because, as you're using it, it just - as long as you can type fairly quickly, and if you can't, you can always go back and fill stuff in, but you just are able to take good notes. Like I know how to take notes, but Glean really helped me organize them and keep track of things, and I'm not trying to scramble to get everything down because I know if I missed something, I can go back. So I definitely would recommend Glean to anyone who has access to it.
