Speaker: Javier Viera, President of Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary
What are your hopes for the future of the UMC?
Javier Viera: My hope for the future of the church is that we can finally stop talking about our values, stop talking about the church that we want to be and that we will now actually be able to live into it and start being the church that we've always known that we can be and that we should be. I think this moment — this historical moment that we've lived in this General Conference gives us the opportunity to do that — to put all of the past, of our bickering and our fighting behind us and actually live into the promise of God's future that God holds out for us and that we can do it boldly and courageously. And that is my hope for the future of the church.
