Speaker: Chiyona Bourne, UMEA Chaplain at Indiana University
Chiyona Bourne: An experience from my ministry as a chaplain that brought me joy was being here overnight when a Hispanic family came in and we're dealing with the unexpected loss of their baby. The whole family came in, mom, dad, and 3 other children. And they wanted before they left the hospital to know that their baby would be OK. So I offered a blessing early in the morning in this time of deep loss, deep grief, and I was able to really connect with the family. And at the end of the visit, the father looked at my name, the spelling of my name, and he said, Oh my goodness, you're crying with us, because my name, if said in the Spanish language, actually means cry baby. And it was just a meaningful experience, a way for me to connect with a family in the midst of their deep grief.
