Speaker: Kevin C.
How did you become a caregiver?
Kevin C.: Uh, well, I kind of, I notice something's wrong a month or so ago before mom actually had a stroke and I tried to reach out to some of my siblings who, uh, ignored the messages, the phone calls and then I finally had said about a month later when I noticed she had gotten completely worse. Um, I need to get here before something happens. Um, little did I know she already had a stroke in the house and then, um, uh, pretty much by the time she was set to come home, everyone else, my siblings and whatnot had made it pretty clear they were going to be going in a different direction. So, uh, uh, you know, kind of left me, uh, left, uh, stuck to, uh, to do the right thing and, uh, you know, been doing it ever since.
What does it mean to you to be a Caregiver?
Kevin C.: Um, so it, it, it's a practical job but, you know, you also have to have a lot of determination to make sure that you can handle it because it will sometimes bring you to your knees. And, uh, you know, but you also have to understand why you're doing it. You're doing it for the greater good because without us, you know, who knows where they'd be, you know, we are heroes and that's the thing I think sometimes we fail to remind ourselves that people don't want to acknowledge of what we do for a living as being heroes. But you know, don't kid yourself. We really are heroes.
