Speaker: Angela-Marie
How did you become a caregiver?
Angela-Marie: So my name is Angela and I became a caregiver when I was 21 years old for my dad. And the reason why I became a caregiver for him, because he was reaching a point in his life where he really needed assistance with pretty much everything and anything as far as bills to showering himself to cooking his meals. And the reason why I did it was because there is really nobody else that was gonna do it for him. And he's really the only parent that I have left. So that's why I became his caregiver to be with him, I guess in his final moment.
What does it mean to you to be a Caregiver?
Angela-Marie: A caregiver to me is someone who really is a backbone for whoever they're caring for. Like they handle all of pretty much everything. Like if they need a doctor's appointment, they take care of grocery shopping, anything and everything that this patient needs to like, basically advocate for them. So that's what a caregiver is to me and it could be paid or unpaid. But because there's just so much that includes with my dad, that's why I joined Freedom Care because they really make it like a little easier as far as the financial part to be able to take care of him.
