Speakers: Michael Pedro, Operations Analyst, BNY MELLON
Before his apprenticeship...
Michael Pedro: I worked as a service manager for an industrial company for about four years before the Franklin Apprenticeship started for me.
At first, it seemed too good to be true
Michael Pedro: I'll be honest, I was definitely skeptical about it before because, you know, people post stuff on job forums all the time and they're not real. But you know, I believe that it was real and I just kept working and once I completed it, things started to happen.
It was the start of a career in tech
Michael Pedro: I was still working my full time job. I had always wanted to get into tech and this seemed like a fast track for me to make my way into that career. Throughout the Pre-Apprenticeship program, I was given tons of information through IBM and was able to go at my own pace and watch the videos, learning the material, take quizzes and ultimately get through the Pre-Apprenticeship. And then also going through the interview process and eventually getting a job.
Michael was hired as an IBM Z® Systems Admin Apprentice!
Now he's working through his apprenticeship with support from Franklin's Success Coaches
Michael Pedro: Yeah, I've been lucky enough to have multiple Success Coaches throughout my apprenticeship journey, But the one thing I can say about each one of them is that they genuinely want you to succeed. For me that means a lot, it makes me feel like I have someone to lean on when I'm frustrated, someone to celebrate with when I feel like I'm accomplished and doing well and someone for me to go to whenever I have questions.
And, he has some advice...
Michael Pedro: So if you're considering doing a Franklin Apprenticeship do it. It is, it is the gateway for you to get to that next career move or to the dreams that you thought, you can never get to.
