Speaker: Anita Zagulska, EU Policy Analyst, FiscalNote EU Issue Tracker

What key policy issues will shape the upcoming EU Parliamentary elections?

Anita Zagulska: I believe that there are two key policy files that will shape the upcoming EU elections. The first one would be the regulation on transparency in paid political advertising which not only will enhance EU citizens' trust in the election campaigns but will also fight disinformation and foreign interference in the EU. The second file would be the directive on strategic lawsuits against public participation which will allow more support and legal certainty for victims of SLAPPs.

What legislative work is expected to be pushed through until the end of April?

Anita Zagulska: The files on strategic lawsuits against public participation, the multi annual financial framework provision, and transparency in paid political advertising will likely be completed by the end of this legislative term.

What factors may shape the EU's legislative agenda going forward?

Anita Zagulska: Some of the key factors that will continue to shape the EU's legislative agenda include the war in Ukraine, conflict in the Middle East, farmers' protests against the Green Deal reforms, the rise of the far right throughout the EU, and the potential use of AI as a tool to spread misinformation.
