Urs Fischer: Treatment of people with intracerebral hemorrhage is a major unresolved issue in stroke medicine. The recent ENRICH ICH trial shows the benefit of early minimal invasive surgery in people with lobar but not in people with deep in intracerebral hemorrhage. Whether decompressive surgery improves the outcome in these people is unknown. We therefore designed the SWITCH trial testing whether the decompressive surgery plus best medical treatment improves the outcome in people with severe deep intracerebral hemorrhage compared to best medical treatment alone.
