Speaker: Beata Weiss, SVP, HR
Why is it important that our meetings are more effective and our time more purposeful?
Beata Weiss: It's super important to have a good effective meeting because we are in back to back meetings. So that's the first thing we should solve for is make sure we have time to think and be innovative and we don't want to have repeat meetings. So let's make sure you have an agenda, make sure you have follow up, someone's taking notes. And then the next meeting, you start with the action items and updates and keep them short and sweet. They don't all have to be an hour.
What is one change you would suggest (or have made) to decrease ineffective meetings or make time for innovation & balance?
Beata Weiss: Put in time, block off time for innovation for thinking, for checking your emails. When we're doing back to back meetings, we don't have time to coach. We're just giving people the answers because we know we've got a meeting in about 10 minutes. So this will make you a better leader, better manager to take the time to not give folks the answer but process let them come to the right answer. So it's hard for us to kind of get out of this world that we've created over the last three years of back to back meetings. We didn't used to work like this. So let's remember how we used to work. We used to take time to eat lunch, we used to take time to spend with our colleagues and actually have conversations versus just driving from one meeting to the next.
What would you do with extra time back in your day?
Beata Weiss: With extra time in my day, I would have the opportunity to be a better coach and develop my team better and take the time to unpack a situation, walk through them, let them get to the conclusion versus rushing to the answer because I know what the answer is because of my years of experience and the experiences I've had throughout those years. So I think that would be great and I find joy in that and also just having the development conversations with all of our associates.
