Speaker: Vicky Leavitt, Assistant Professor of Neuropsychology, Columbia University Irving Medical Center

What inspired you to be part of the Scientific Programme at ECTRIMS 2022?

Vicky Leavitt: ECTRIMS is a conference that I look forward to every year. This is going to be my 12th time attending ECTRIMS and I'm looking forward to sharing science from my laboratory with the research community and also learning about all of the new cutting edge research that's out there. So it's really my favourite conference of the year and I can't wait to see everybody in Amsterdam.

What key insights do you plan to share during your session?

Vicky Leavitt: I'll be sharing research from my lab, new work that we're doing, looking at sex differences in brain maintenance, cognitive reserve and brain reserve. It's really exciting because we have long noticed that there are differences between men and women in ability to cope with MS disease. And now we have access to a very large dataset of over 11,000 patients in whom we've tested the brain reserve hypothesis. And so we'll be sharing those results with the community. We'll also be talking about treatments for psychological symptoms in MS. And that will be based on a number of clinical trials that we've run for non pharmacological treatments of psychological symptoms in MS. All of this is research that I'm thrilled to have an opportunity to share with colleagues.
