Speaker: Dr Therese Burke, Clinical Platform Coordinator, MS Australia

What inspired you to be part of the Scientific Programme at ECTRIMS 2022?

Dr Therese Burke: I think during the last few years in particular, so much has gone on in the world that it's made us really deeply reflect on our practise and ask ourselves questions that we might never have asked ourselves before. Such as why do we do what we do? Thinking about that has really inspired me to come to ECTRIMS this year because I wanted to start having some meaningful conversations about how we can do the journey with MS better not just for obviously our patients and their loved ones, but also for us as health care professionals and scientists and as researchers.

What key insights do you plan to share during your session?

Dr Therese Burke: In recent months, I've been reflecting deeply on the importance of the lived experience in MS and how we can best use it in our clinical and research care, not just for the benefit of our patients, but also for ourselves as clinicians and researchers. So in my presentation, we're going to dig deeply into what these learnings are and how we can use them to benefit all of us. I'll focus on the crucial role of the MS nurse in this process, and I'll also provide examples both clinically and in research care of how the lived experience can be a really powerful tool for providing best quality care.
