Speaker: Jaume Sastre-Garriga, MD PhD Neurologist / Deputy Director University Hospital Vall d' Hebron
What inspired you to be part of the Scientific Programme at ECTRIMS 2022?
Jaume Sastre-Garriga: So what I could say is not that something has inspired me to participate at ECTRIMS. But the thing is, that ECTRIMS is really inspirational. We all know the feeling, and I've been participating in ECTRIMS for the last almost 25 years. And when you walk back home or back to your place of work and you meet your colleagues back in the hospital, you are full of new ideas, full of new hypotheses to test and also full of this sense of community that we all share while at ECTRIMS. So it's not that I've been inspired to participate, but that ECTRIMS is my source of inspiration for keeping on working in the fight against multiple sclerosis.
What key insights do you plan to share during your session?
Jaume Sastre-Garriga: So my name is Jaume Sastre-Garriga and I work in Barcelona the Vall d'Hebron Hopsital, and I'm going to participate in Scientific Session 1: Personalised Treatment, and to deliver a talk "When to start which DMT in whom?" This is not really simple. There's no really simple answer to this very simple looking question. It's very complex in real life. It's very, not just complex in real life, but also complex when devising these research studies trying to answer. Because probably what we need to do is personalise. You could create general recipes. You could create general, answers to that particular questions, and we would all agree that we need to start the sooner the better when it's indicated. Which means that we still need to personalise therapy. If the answer would be "as soon as possible, everybody with the highest effective drug" then this question wouldn't exist, and I wouldn't be invited to speak at ECTRIMS.
