Jeff Bateman: "The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place." That was said by the famous George Bernard Shaw, the famous Irish playwright back in the 1900s. This still rings true for all of us today. Unless we engage in dialogue and check for understanding, we have no way of knowing if the communication we have sent has indeed been understood in the way it was intended. Engaging in dialogue is a great fundamental of communication and I and the team want to hear from you and would love to engage in dialogue with you whenever we can. Another fundamental of communication was beautifully captured by the poet Maya Angelou. She said: "people will forget what you said, but they will never forget how you make them feel." This is 100% true and we should all think how we communicate to each other and always communicate in a way that we would like to be communicated to. Having a "yes and" approach versus a "no, but"is also a fundamental, it will lead us to places and to great solutions that are truly often unexpected. 3rd our team always really likes to consider and communicate with the "why". Work and make decisions around the purpose of a task will lead to impactful and effective work that will help benefit our clients. If you can't articulate the impact or action on someone or something, perhaps we need to consider, if it really needs to be done. This is how we support the Congrex purpose, having a laser focus on the participant and constantly asking what's in it for them? How does this benefit them and to ensure that everything we do will support the mission of our clients. I'm Jeff and I lead the Strategic Communications team. I'm a certified meeting professional and an ICF accredited executive coach. My superpowers include the ability to ask powerful questions, deep listening and being able to look at things from numerous perspectives when not working. You will find me either in the mountains, gaining new perspectives, especially in winter on adventures with my two young daughters. And finally from me, be sure with what you are doing, you are having fun. Great moods, create great ideas. Now, each of us in the communications team have different skills and specialties, so we're constantly passing the ball between each and every one of us to make sure we have a successful outcome.
