Speaker: Menno Schoonheim, Associate Professor, Amsterdam UMC
What key insights will you be sharing in your session?
Menno Schoonheim: My name is
Menno Schoonheim, and I'm from the MS Centre in Amsterdam. This year at ECTRIMS, I will give a lecture on the latest insights of structural and functional MRI. So, what are the different ways that we can visualise damage in the brain and what new types of mechanisms can we derive from that, what types of scans are we using now in research and which ones are feasible for clinic. At the same time, I will also provide an outlook on the latest ways of visualising how the brain responds to damage. So, how does the communication between the different brain regions change in result of these types of damage and how does that help the brain function and how does that maybe slow down clinical progression. Or, are there specific functional patterns that are maybe maladaptive and actually related to worse progression. All this will become clear in the lecture, so I hope you can make it
Why is MSMilan2023 such an important event for MS experts and neurologists?
Menno Schoonheim: Every year ECTRIMS is the biggest conference in our field. It might seem that it's just a European conference, but that is actually not the case. The entire world is looking at ECTRIMS every year for the latest insights into MS research, new developments for treatment, new mechanisms underlying symptoms and different ways of studying what causes MS and how we could slow it down. Every year this is the biggest one, and this year in Milan is going to be amazing.
