Speaker: Marcello Moccia, Professor, University of Naples

What key insights will you be sharing in your session and why is this important?

Marcello Moccia: At the upcoming ECTRIMS conference, I will be presenting the practical implementation of new criteria within the new diagnostic criteria session. We are fully aware that every time a new set of criteria is proposed, there are huge challenges in their implementation. In particular, we want to make sure that people with suspected MS are able to go through a clear path for excluding or confirming the diagnosis in the shortest possible time and with the highest accuracy. But it remains necessary that we avoid unnecessary complexities, and we make sure that the new criteria are applicable worldwide in diverse population and heterogeneous clinical settings.

Why is ECTRIMS 2024 a must-attend event for the MS and neurological research community?

Marcello Moccia: ECTRIMS is the moment of the year all stakeholders in the MS field get together. And as such, it is not only the best opportunity to meet clinical and basic science researchers in the field of MS from around the world, but there is also the opportunity of getting inspired from a huge variety of stakeholders, including people with MS, MS charities or editorial members of MS journals or drug companies. ECTRIMS is not only about research and scientific advances, but it is also about people and social interactions. I am really looking forward to the upcoming ECTRIMS conference, and I'm really ready to make the most of it.
