Speaker: Patty , Canada

Patty : Hi, I'm Patty and I'm from Alberta, Canada.

Can you show us some of your Draw Awesome artwork that you're most pleased with?

Patty : Something from the ink module... I've never really done this before, like a lot of things, but Phil walks you through step-by-step and I'm really happy with the result. I had a lot of comments about it and the art community in Artkula is really supportive - and this is the other one. I've never done watercolour before and again, walked through with Phil, step-by-step and I was really happy with the results. So, you know, even though these things are new, I feel like I can take them on again.

Before starting Draw Awesome, what was your level of art experience and what did you struggle with?

Patty : I have taken a few art courses here and there, but I never felt like I was improving or getting anywhere. And especially, I love to sketch and I felt I could never get all the values I wanted to get, or perspective. I just wasn't getting anywhere. And what happens is ... because you're not progressing, you tend to stop.

How do you think Draw Awesome has helped you?

Patty : Draw Awesome has really helped me improve with my sketching in graphite. It's a lot, lot better! I've got perspective better and the big things I've tried - new mediums which I would never take out on my own, like some watercolour - pencil crayon is another thing - I've struggled with that and now I feel I can take it on so it's really given me confidence to try new things and I think Phil is a natural teacher and he walks you through each project, step by step. So by the time you're done, you feel you could do it again on your own So it's a real help.

Finally, what do you like most about Draw Awesome and would you recommend it to others?

Patty : The thing I like about Draw Awesome is the step-by-step teaching and it really helps develop confidence and I feel I can take on other things. The other thing is, you can go at your own pace and you can just poke along and/or go as fast as you want. So it's very individual. Anybody can do it and do well!
