Speaker: Donna , Germany

Donna : Hi, I'm Donna, I'm from the UK originally, but I've been living in Germany for the last 16 years.

Can we see some of the work you've done with Draw Awesome?

Donna : I've just finished the fourth module in Draw Awesome. Some of my favorite things I've done are this rhinoceros in charcoal, which I had so much fun doing. It was just a real pleasure. And I just can't believe I got the proportions right without using crutches. It was just, it really gave me a boost to my confidence. One of the other things I've done that I loved was this pen and ink car. I loved the style. I'd never thought I'd be able to do anything like that. One of my friends asked for it for his wall. Just really been happy with with that and want to do more in that style. But my absolute favourite thing is this pastel Bubble Girl. I absolutely loved doing this. The level of instruction gave me such confidence. She reminds me of my niece and because portraits of my family is something I would really love to be able to do. It just filled me with the confidence that I can get there.

Are you a beginner or someone with a little more experience?

Donna : Before I started Draw Awesome, I was very much a beginner. I've done some digital art, but I've never felt really like I was doing that because I used so many crutches, like tracing and color picking that it didn't feel like I was contributing much at all. I started drawing on paper because I got a drawing activity book, which led me to Phil's information sheet about drawing, with lots of tips. And after I got that I started improving - - that led me to join Artkula and then I was drawing every day with a lot of motivation and encouragement from the community. And I start - I did start improving but not as drastically as I have done since I started Draw Awesome.

So, how has Draw Awesome helped you?

Donna : Draw Awesome has massively improved my art skills, my observation and I feel like there's still room for improvement and I'm just getting better all the time. It's not only my art - - it's improved my confidence, my belief in myself that I can tackle subjects and - and things in styles and mediums that I would never have believed I could do four months ago. And my improvements just been so massive that my family all comment all the time how good I am. My Mum asked for a picture to hang on her wall. It's... it's just been brilliant.

Would you recommend Draw Awesome to others?

Donna : Phil is a great teacher. He fills you with so much confidence. He has so much enthusiasm and encouragement that it's it's hard not to improve. But Draw Awesome also has a great community. Everyone is so helpful and supportive and encouraging, share tips. It's it's just you have a real sense of being in this together, which is is great. Not only that the projects are interesting and some things that I wouldn't have thought of drawing that I've really loved doing and it's... you know, it's so great to try out different medium. I... I thought I would come away from the Course with a strong preference, but instead it's increased how much I like a variety of things, so it's just been great.
