Cindy : Hi I'm Cindy. I'm from New Jersey.

Can you show us some of your Draw Awesome artwork that you're most pleased with?

Cindy : I've really enjoyed all the lessons that I've done with Phil, but I have to say Bubble Girl was the most intimidating to start. When I first saw it, I thought there is no way I'm going to be able to do that! But here she is - sorry for the glare. But doing Bubble Girl really gave me confidence. It was amazing to see the colours and the shapes and the forms build up over the layers. And then I was confident enough to apply what I learned to do a self portrait and a portrait of my grandkids. It's just been amazing! All the classes are great, but that's the one that just really intimidated me from the get go!

Before starting Draw Awesome, what was your level of art experience and what did you struggle with?

Cindy : I had very little art experience... ...no formal courses since 8th grade. But I had started taking an acrylics class during Covid online... I 'thought I could really benefit from learning how to draw.

How do you think Draw Awesome has helped you?

Cindy : I found Phil quite accidentally online and took one of his earlier Courses, the fried egg coloured pencil and thought it was really interesting to learn how to apply layers of colour and create something that looked real. Draw Awesome has been amazing! I've never thought I could draw the way I do. People look at what I've accomplished in the class and are amazed and I tell them they can do it too! Phil's teaching style is starting with the basics and build on what you learn as you go along. I'm amazed again at what I've been able to do. I've gotten confidence to take an in-person acrylics portrait class, which was quite amazing. It's really become my joy finding time to draw, learning how to do these skills from Phil. He's been wonderful and everyone I see, I tell about the Class. I think it's just fabulous. I really think anybody could learn. It's a lot of fun and it's great to see what the other students are doing too.

Finally, what are some of the things you like most about Draw Awesome and would you recommend it to others?

Cindy : I really appreciate being able to explore different mediums through the Draw Awesome Course. I'd never used watercolour. I'd never layered coloured pencils. I'd never worked with pastels or charcoal, so I really do appreciate being able to learn the different mediums through Phil's Course. It's been wonderful. I created a Google photo library of all my pictures. I show it to folks that I see and really encourage people to explore the Course and try Phil's Classes. The other great thing is, my grandkids are also learning art at school. We get to compare notes and talk about doing wet-on-wet watercolour and things like that. So it's been... it's been a lot of fun and a great way to connect with my grandkids!
